Join your fellow travellers for a Welcome Dinner this evening.
This morning we depart Houston for Lafayette, Louisiana – known as the ‘Happiest City in America’! Enjoy a free afternoon before embarking on a Cajun Food Tour. Sample the fabulous Cajun food that makes Louisiana so unique. Expect to taste many Cajun originals like boudin, king cake, gumbo, crawfish, fried shrimp, cracklin’ and more!
Today you will get the full Cajun experience! Start with a guided tour of the Historic Vermilionville Village, a living museum of the history, culture and natural resources of the Native Americans, Acadians, Creoles, and peoples of African dissent in the Attakapas region through the end of the 1800s. After an included Cajun lunch, head to a dance studio to learn some Cajun dance moves before touring a Handmade Accordion Factory. After freshening up at the hotel, we have an included Cajun dinner which will have live music where you can put your dance lessons to use!
Depart Lafayette to New Orleans. On the way we stop at the Tabasco Brand Factory. We will tour the factory to learn about the history as well as the process of making Tabasco Sauce. After the tour we partake in a Cajun Culinary Experience where we sample 6 local tastings from the Acadiana Region along with other favourite Tabasco drinks and food. Later, relax on a guided Jungle Gardens Tour that showcases snowy white egrets, black bears, muskrats, armadillos, alligators, old oaks, magnificent bamboo, and more. Arriving at our New Orleans hotel, steps away from the French quarter, the rest of the day is spent at leisure.
This morning we depart for Houmas House, the Crown Jewel of Louisiana’s River Road. Enjoy a guided tour of the mansion which offers a glimpse of plantation life and a self-guided tour of the plantations 38-acre grounds that contains formal gardens, walking paths and sitting nooks. There will also be an included buffet lunch at the café. The afternoon is spent at leisure.
Departing New Orleans, enter the marshland of Honey Island Swamp, considered to be one of the least-altered river swamps in the USA, on this Swamp Tour. Glide through gator territory on a flat-bottomed boat and hear all about the swamp and its natural inhabitants from local experts. Head back into New Orleans for a free afternoon.
This morning we will visit the New Orleans School of Cooking where your lunch will be included. You will be taught the basics of Louisiana cooking in a way you’ll never forget. In the afternoon enjoy a City Tour of New Orleans before our evening dinner cruise onboard the Creole Queen’s Jazz Cruise.
After checking out of your hotel, we will Visit Mardi Gras World. Learn Mardi Gras history and culture, watch artists and sculptors create majestic floats, and take home a Mardi Gras experience you’ll never forget.
