Travel from your home city to San Jose today.  Transfers to the hotel are included. (D)

Day 2 San Jose to Arenal Area

We will start our trip driving north on the Pan American Highway towards Sarchí, which has earned the name of the birthplace of Costa Rica’s Artisans. As we continue our trip, we will go through diverse plantations with agricultural products, ornamental plants and cattle ranches until we reach La Fortuna. (B, D)

 
Day 3 Arenal Area

Arenal Area

Today we make our way to the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge & the Rio Frio. Both are biological humid areas and are some of the richest in biological diversity in Costa Rica. Here you can find a great variety of resident & migratory birds plus three different species of monkeys and many more unique species. (B, L, D)

Guided by a local naturalist, we will enjoy the fascinating and colourful tropical rain forest this morning at Arenal Hanging Bridges.  This series of static and suspension bridges, ranging from 8 to 98 meters long, allow views of the forests at different levels, imposing vistas of the volcano, and great bird-watching opportunities, making for an unforgettable experience!  This afternoon, join our guide for a gentle hike along the base of Arenal Volcano before enjoying a relaxing soak at Baldi Hot Springs followed by a delicious dinner with views of Arenal Volcano in the background. Day 5 Arenal to Monteverde

Arenal to Monteverde

After breakfast, we will continue our journey to the Monteverde area, famous for its cool, gray, misty cloud forest and perfect for nature lovers!  On our scenic boat ride across Lake Arenal, we will enjoy breathtaking views of the northern plains of Costa Rica as our guide tells us the history of the local area.  After checking into the hotel, the rest of our day is free to enjoy.  You may wish to take a canopy tour of the Monteverde Cloud Forest, visit a local butterfly farm or frog pond, or relax and enjoy the beautiful views and amenities of our hotel. Today is a free day.  You may wish to take part in an optional tour, or perhaps just relax and enjoy the pool, mineral springs, and trails surrounding our hotel. (B, D)

This morning we will visit a family-owned Trapiche Farm where we will learn about the production and cultivation of sugar cane, coffee, bananas, plantains, arracacha, macadamia nuts, and oranges on our guided tour.  We will also see all three types of typical trapiches (sugar cane mills) used on the farm, before enjoying a delicious lunch.  In the afternoon, enjoy a guided nature walk through a spectacular ecosystem and encounter many incredible species of flora & fauna at the Curicancha private reserve. Day 8 Monteverde to Guanacaste

Monteverde to Guanacaste

Today we depart the cloud forest, and head west for Guanacaste, famous for its beaches and home of Costa Rica’s dry tropical forest.  Along the way, we will enjoy amazing views and learn the history of the local towns.  Our home for the next 7 nights is the oceanfront Dreams Las Mareas All-Inclusive Resort located on the sands of the Pacific Coast. The options are endless!  For the next 7 nights, you’ll have time to relax by the pool, wander on the beach, and enjoy the many services of the All-Inclusive Dreams Las Mareas. Our guide will also have some optional tours for those who wish to see more of Costa Rica!  On our final morning, we will be transferred to Liberia for our flight home. (B, L, D)
